A great date with the city

I must say January is my least favourite month of the year. You are left with food-guilt from the Christmas Holidays and feel obliged to start a diet. BORING! More over, you've had such a wicked time over the end of the year that you are left with no money either. To conclude, you are living in London, one of the most expensive cities in Europe and yet one of the most vibrant and exciting ones. Which means you want to and can do plenty of things but sadly you can't afford them.

But hey! Thankfully not everything in the City is about big bucks and there's still plenty of good things you could do for very little money!

One of my suggestions for this dry month  is to explore the many free exhibitions around London. I particularly liked the new exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery, Post Pop: East meets West.

I love modern and contemporary art (little confession: my fave museum is Pompidou in France) and if you do too this is the perfect exhibition to go to. Very Andy Warhol style, all of the pop art shown here is from the 1970s up to today, with pieces by artists from China, the former Soviet Union, Taiwan, the UK and the USA.

The art is distributed among the three floors of the art gallery, and presents the art of each country in relation to each other through the framework of six themes: Habitat, Advertising and Consumerism, Celebrity and Mass Media, Art History, Religion and Ideology and Sex & the Body.

Once you finish wandering around Saatchi, the best you can do is have a walk around the streets of Chelsea and sit on a café and have some treats. However, I really wanted to try a french patisserie located in Ravenscourt Park.

Only 15min away from Sloane Sq tube station, this french bakery is everything a foodie monster is looking for. All home made and run by french people (always a good sign) this place offers incredible mini tarts, macarons and éclairs, among many other savoury treats.

So there you go! Less than a fiver and a geet day out. What else can you ask for?
