I have been sadly informed that TATA Eatery in its usual Haggerston spot has now closed. However, you can still follow its whereabouts and pop ups on the insta here
What? TĀTĀ Eatery
Why should you go there? Because you know how much I love food but never go to the same place twice and this is probably the latest place I’ve been that I am still thinking about.
Try thinking Asian food (not sushi) with a Mediterranean twist and you are half way there. The chef's Zijun Meng and Ana Gonçalves (who worked with Nuno Mendes, if you need some reference) take on food is difficult to explain, but extremely delicious to try. It was certainly an experience.
The menu is a puzzle, all with different pictures trying to explain what you are about to have. I am now remembering their sweet but savoury dumplings with crispy noodles inside we had for starts and my mouth is literally watering. As for mains, their mushroom dish is freakingly delicious, and you know I love my meat. Also, their tofu a bras with umami broth is sooo tasty...If you have room for dessert, try their coffee ice-cream. MMM, I am hungry again!
The venue is very cool as well: small, with a very low key and chilled vibe. The loos are awesome, very 90s all covered in magazine paper.
When? Anytime between 6 to 11pm, Wednesday to Saturdays. Oh, and best thing is? You CAN book! Yes, you’ve heard right. It is delicious, inexpensive and you don’t need to wait for hours to get a table.
Get yourself there before the word is out! This place is BIG.
