Destination Christmas: Winter Wonderland

I am passionate about Christmas. That’s it, I said it. But who would not be excited about this time of the year? Specially if you live in London. From the beginning of December (if not late November), the city becomes so whimsical, so magic! All the streets are enlightened with the Christmas spirit, and of course the shopping plays along.

But never mind the shopping (will get to that another day), one of my fav FREE spots during this period is the unmistakable Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park.

Now in its 7th year, Winter Wonderland is a place for many many things. Whether you are looking for some christmas decoration (although to my taste a bit pricey), or some good german fun (Hello Bavaria Village) the options are vast.

You’ll find the Christmas Market at the entrance of the park, with beautiful wooden chalets and various Bavarian-style bars and cafés. I like coming here as well cause you can find mulled wine and mulled cider, which is perfect considering the weather is freezing by this time of the year!

There’s also plenty of rides for kids (and not so kids), a Giant Wheel, an ice rink and of course, Santa’s Grotto!

As last Friday was Christmas Jumper Day, a fundraising campaing promoted by Save the Children, I took the opportunity to be even more Christmassss-y and wore my super hideous-funky-lovely Christmas Jumper, which was so much fun!

In any case, I think is a perfect way to spend a day in London during this period of the year, and although it is not a cheap date it is great fun and you’ll get into the Christmas spirit. I highly recommend you having a wander!
